It is located in Alberton, a city situated on the south of the East Rand, Johannesburg. It was incorporated into the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality in the year 2000 and celebrated its centenary year in 2005.

Alrode is arguably one of the largest industrial areas in Gauteng, with warehouses, factories and distribution facilities throughout. Due to the area's high demand, a lot of development has taken place within the last decade. Brand-new industrial complexes have been built comprising of small and large buildings. Taking a look at recent sales in the area, you will find that many of the older properties have been purchased, giving developers an opportunity for renovations, creating a modern feel in the area.

Within close proximity to Alrode, is Gosforth Park, which falls part of Germiston. This area includes some of Gauteng's leading industrial parks, such a Raceway Industrial, S&J Industrial and Randport Industrial.
