Alrode is a thriving industrial node, home to some of the largest industries, such as Steel manufacturing, as well as mining and petroleum suppliers. It is located in Alberton, a city situated on the south of the East Rand, Johannesburg. It was incorporated into the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality in the year 2000 and celebrated its centenary year in 2005.

Alrode is arguably one of the largest industrial areas in Gauteng, with warehouses, factories and distribution facilities throughout. If you are looking for large electricity availability, coupled with a large industrial facility, Alrode is the place to be, thus vacancies are very low due to its high demand.

Due to the area's high demand, a lot of development has taken place within the last decade. Brand-new industrial complexes have been built comprising of small and large buildings. Taking a look at recent sales in the area, you will find that many of the older properties have been purchased, giving developers an opportunity for renovations, creating a modern feel in the area.
Within close proximity to Alrode, is Gosforth Park, which falls part of Germiston. This area includes some of Gauteng's leading industrial parks, such a Raceway Industrial, S&J Industrial and Randport Industrial.

Alrode itself is not historically known as a shopping destination, however there are a handful of shopping malls and retail stores within close proximity. A fast developing area at the doorstep of Alrode is Newmarket. Mall at Newmarket is a brand-new shopping centre housing some of the biggest names: Checkers Hyper, Food Lovers Market, Dis-Chem and Virgin Active.
